As part of the preparatory process for the Africa Internet Governance Forum (Africa IGF) 2026, the Africa IGF Secretariat launched a continental Call for Thematic and Issues Inputs between 13 April and 3 May 2026 to help inform the programme and thematic priorities for the upcoming forum.
The consultation process received over 207 contributions from stakeholders across 36 African countries, reflecting continued engagement and growing interest in strengthening inclusive and multistakeholder digital governance processes across the continent.
The submissions brought together perspectives from governments, the private sector, civil society, the technical community, academia, youth networks, and development partners. The inputs provided valuable insights into Africa’s evolving digital governance priorities, emerging policy issues, and opportunities linked to the continent’s broader digital transformation agenda.
The process also aligns with ongoing global digital governance discussions, including the outcomes of the WSIS+20 review process, which reaffirmed the importance of inclusive multistakeholder cooperation, meaningful connectivity, digital inclusion, trust and security, and the role of digital technologies in advancing sustainable development.
Building on these consultations and inputs received from the community, the Africa IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) agreed on the overarching theme for Africa IGF 2026: “Advancing Africa’s Digital Future Through Innovation, Inclusion, and Trust.” The theme has also been fully endorsed by the host country, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing an inclusive, trusted, and innovation-driven digital future for Africa.
